Auriea Harvey Considers Origins of Mythical Creature Now on View at The Whitney

“While it has its own story, I put that video there to make a link between the creatures and their origin point. A diagram to the parallel history from where my pantheon hails.”
– American artist Auriea Harvey, on the role the digital animation L.O.C.K. (2016) played in her pivotal 2021 Bitforms solo exhibition. Looming behind her Ox (2020) sculpture—now on view at the Whitney—“was a whole universe” that Harvey and long-time partner Michaël Samyn created for the first Triennale Milano Game Collection under their moniker Tale of Tales.
