David Haines and Joyce Hinterding Tap Ether’s Invisible Forces

“If ever there was a time to listen to the hum of electromagnetism… ,” Australian artists David Haines and Joyce Hinterding muse about probing “invisible forces” in their duo exhibition “Ether” at Sumer, Auckland (NZ). Hinterding’s LC Lichen Oscillator Cadmium Yellow (2025), for example, pairs an active antenna and a fractal capacitor that, together, form a resonant circuit that oscillates in the inaudible MHz range.
