Julius von Bismarck’s High Sea Buoy Anchors in Hannover
Julius von Bismarck’s installation, Die Mimik der Tethys (2019), moves into its semi-permanent home at Spengel Museum, Hannover, where for the next ten years, the suspended high sea buoy will echo the real-time movements of its Atlantic counterpart. The artist describes the piece is a visceral reminder of the wildness of the ocean and looming sea level rise. “The buoy functions as a hypnotising machine that inevitably leads to the idea of waves lapping around inside the exhibition space, creating an ocean in the minds of people.”
