Italian artist Quayola’s SOLAR (2025) arrives at Toronto’s Bentway for a three-night run following its July premiere at Videocitta, where it transformed Rome’s Gazometro. In the performance, a robotic arm directs 200 synchronized light beams through geometric patterns beneath the Gardiner Expressway, translating twilight’s optical phenomena—crepuscular rays, chromatic gradients—into what Quayola describes as “algorithmic gestures and glowing orbits,” reimagining sunset as a large-scale choreography.
